RyeCatcher began as a simple concept—a service and support app for schoolchildren, designed to help parents and teachers connect kids to the resources they needed to grow and develop. As RyeCatcher built their platform, they learned just how complex the needs of young students could be.
Cooper helped RyeCatcher bring all these pieces together, designing a robust enterprise software providing whole-life tracking and support for school kids. RyeCatcher’s tools can now follow the development of students with granular detail, leading to big changes in their lives.
When RyeCatcher came to Cooper, its tools weren’t communicating with each other and its data output was hard to read. Important functions were difficult to access, buried deep in disconnected menus. The information was all there, but the important details weren’t coming into focus. Parents and teachers needed a way to integrate, prioritize, and display the detailed data they were collecting.
Cooper talked to RyeCatcher’s users — parents — at schools around the country to focus on a human-centered design. Tools were relocated for intuitive access and a visual reporting display for student history and current needs was added. Streamlining the onboarding process removed the struggle from adding new kids to the system, and refining the report output brought data profiles together into a meaningful story.
RyeCatcher can now instantly output a clear, visual report of each student’s status. Parents and teachers can now understand the holistic needs of each child or of entire classes at a glance and take action instead of wasting valuable time on guesswork or interpreting raw data.
With Cooper’s help, RyeCatcher has matured into more than just an education management platform that tracks children’s development from year to year. Users are now maximizing student outcomes by observing not just grades, but also health notes, social and personality issues, family conditions, and more.
Users are excited to engage with the new design—data interpretation that used to involve numerous meetings over several weeks can now be done by one user, instantly. Teachers are now receiving fleshed-out profiles of each student on day one of each new school year.
“We were able to connect a transient family with services, and that contribution helped her have no suspensions for the rest of the school year.”
The effects are amazing. Senchel Matthews, a RyeCatcher user and Director of Student Support Services said: “We were able to connect a transient family with services, and that contribution helped her have no suspensions for the rest of the school year. It saved her from dropping out of school.” According to Senchel, examples like these are common.
Cooper’s design uplevel has changed RyeCatcher from a simple resource-finder into a powerful life-changer. As enrollment grows, RyeCatcher’s user-friendly design will help close the gap between school kids everywhere and the resources they need to become healthy, educated adults.
