Users don’t say the hardware is nice but the software is bad—they say the product is bad. We've found the only way to generate a seamless user experience is to integrate interaction and industrial design into a single process, driven by user goals.
At Cooper, industrial designers work closely with our other design disciplines to research, define, and design superior digital products, from software applications to smart phones, television remotes, irrigation control systems, medical devices, scientific instruments, and automotive navigation systems.
We’re looking for an entrepreneurial Director of Industrial Design who can:
- Lead the ongoing development of Cooper’s industrial design methods, from research through prototypes and specifications
- Sell, scope, and lead highly collaborative client engagements, and do excellent hands-on design work when needed
- Recruit, hire, and train world-class industrial designers
- Work with other practice directors and the executive team to make Cooper the leader in industrial design that we are in interaction and visual interface design
If you’re the right candidate, you:
- Have 7+ years of professional design experience, ideally a combination of in-house and consulting work
- Have plenty of experience collaborating with interaction designers to make hardware and software that deliver a cohesive user experience
- Are at least as much about technical problem-solving as you are about style, and you enjoy collaborating with MEs and EEs
- Understand that the design is only half the problem, and that the other half is making sure the client understands it, believes in it, and can build it
- Love to learn new things
